Andrea Messana

inoutput’s cofounder and co-artistic director, Andrea Messana is a photographer currently working in Belgium, France and Italy. With inoutput, he has co-led CODE workshop at the Centre Culturel Le Senghor and co-directed “SHOCK! 1914” at the Royal Library of Belgium for the Museum Night Fever 2015. In 2016, he is co-directing a new event in the book deposits at the Royal Library of Belgium for the 2016 Museum Night Fever.

Andrea studies at the Fondazione Studio Marangoni in Florence (IT) and specializes in photography for art and the stage, obtaining an MA in Stage Photography from the IED in Milan. After a decade working as assistant to Silvia Lelli and Roberto Masotti in Milan, his most notable collaborations are his work as archive assistant at Magnum Photo Paris, his reportages at the Opéra National de Paris and his recent encounters with Pietro Pizzuti and Marie-Paule Kumps for “Constellations”, with Karine Ponties for “Hero%” and “Tyran”, with Karin Coonrod for “Orfeo in Orvieto” and “Merchant in Venice” and as photographer in residence at la Fabrique Autonome des Acteurs (Bataville, FR).

In his almost 20 years of wandering in the backstages of many theatres, Andrea has collaborated, among others, with Bob Wilson, Luca Ronconi, Roberto deSimone, Maurizio Scaparro, Eric Lacascade, Teatroi, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro della Pergola, Michael Marmarinos...

He has also taught courses at IED in Milan and Venice, at LABA in Firenze, at the Architecture Department of the University of Florence and at festival “Focus on the arts” in Chicago (IL).
